cycle. Budgets were laboriously built in spreadsheets, approvals dragged out for months, and projects
frequently started late in the fiscal year. This delay not only strained budgets but also left little time to
execute work effectively.

To solve this, Tomm pioneered a process of preparing approval forms in advance and submitting them
before year-end. This change gave his team an early start on projects, ensuring more work was
completed on time and within budget. He also began grouping similar projects together—roofs,
HVAC upgrades, remodels—and buying them out as single transactions. By leveraging volume in this
way, Wendy’s gained cost advantages, streamlined execution, and forged stronger vendor
partnerships. This concept became the cornerstone of what Simmons & Sons offers today.

From Corporate to Construction

In 2007, Tomm transitioned from the corporate world to entrepreneurship, founding a general
contracting business. Running projects from the builder’s side gave him a new lens through which to
view construction transactions. He witnessed firsthand how fragmented processes, inconsistent
scopes, and piecemeal purchasing drove costs higher for owners and created chaos for vendors. This
experience reinforced his belief that construction projects should be managed like supply chain
transactions—bundled, efficient, and mutually beneficial.

Over the years, Tomm and his team have had the privilege of working with some of the largest
restaurant brands in the country. From quick service to full-service dining, the Simmons & Sons
approach has consistently proven effective: identify commonalities across projects, bundle the work,

Meet Our Founder

Tomm Simmons, Founder & Principal Consultant

Tomm’s career began in 1989, working on a Sonic remodel as part of a construction crew. His hands-on experience gave him a ground-level understanding of the challenges faced by tradespeople and contractors. Over the next decade, he steadily advanced through roles at Wendy’s International—Service Technician, Supervisor, Maintenance Manager—and ultimately rose to Southeast Regional Facilities Director. In that role, Tomm oversaw major capital budgets and hundreds of projects,
shaping the operational standards for one of the largest restaurant brands in the world.

After leaving Wendy’s, Tomm founded a successful commercial construction company, specializing
in restaurant remodels, light industrial facilities, and multi-unit auto repair shops. His entrepreneurial
journey gave him first-hand knowledge of the challenges contractors face: unpredictable schedules, inconsistent scopes, and pressure to deliver at lower costs without consistent volume. These insights became invaluable as he developed the Simmons & Sons consulting model.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tomm is a commercial real estate agent and a proud father of three. His dedication to both, career and family, underscores the values that Simmons & Sons brings to every client partnership – commitment, integrity, and a focus on long-term success.
